Duncan Howlett Guitarist
Playing, learning and performing since 1988.
In this time Duncan Howlett has accumulated many musical achievements/experiences, such as: playing in a youth guitar ensemble, winning 1st place in Colchester's rotary music festival (under 14s guitarist), Qualifying as a Community Musician with the musical charity Music in your Bones.
Duncan studied at the Colchester Institute, gaining a diploma in Classical performance.
He started teaching in 2001, and performing solo for up to 4 hours, at weddings and parties. At some of these events he performed with a vocalist and in a jazz and blues duo.
Having moved to Brighton, he studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music for a HND and PDC in guitar.
He ran the ongoing success that was Brighton's Akoustic Karma Lounge, Eclectic music nights featuring the best of Brighton's acoustic bands and artists. This appeared at some of the best Brighton venues for many years.
Duncan has also been a member of some of Brighton's best original bands. For 4 years he played guitar in the 8 piece funk band The Grand Majestic. He got to support great bands such as Californian Funk legends Breakestra and The Brand New Heavies. He is currently the lead guitarist for the 5 piece Brit rock band Ry Byron and has played great venues such as the O2 dome. Duncan also writes and performs his own solo fingerstyle compositions.
Duncan taught professionally for 4 years with one of the Souths largest independent music teaching organisations.
He is the director and head of music for Band of Teachers, a specialist music services for aspiring musicians looking for professional, affordable and fun music lessons in Brighton & Hove.
